We are big fans of this restaurant and make a point to visit each time we spend time at the beach. The lunch specials are a great value as are the two for one Dos Equis. I prefer my burritos with the shredded beef instead of hamburger and that is never a problem. The chips and salsa are great and the waitstaff has always been patient with me mixing the hot and the green salsa until I get it just right. I don't understand the reviews stating the service is slow or rude. That has never been our experience. Have the fajitas or burrito supreme waiting...we'll be back soon.

Usually this place satisfies any cravings for Mexican food but today was a real exception. The girl who took my To-go order, took it wrong so it took an additional 20 minutes for the kitchen to have it ready (not an issue usually but we only had 45 minutes for lunch) Another waitress simply didn't listen and ignored me when I was trying to ask her something. By the time I got the food and got home with it, I realized they didn't put any cheese in the chili relleno, the burrito looked like someone stuck their finger through the middle of it, the beans were cold, and the taco was completely crushed.

This place was just okay. Service was slow. I ordered a specialty drink and it didn't get served until after we had our food.

Stopped in for dinner with the Mrs while on vacation. I was not expecting much and was surprised with the survive and the food. I had a combo platter and found it to very good. Service and price was better than expected. I would definitely go back.

The casa Marie was ok. But the chips were to die for! I felt like it took a whole to get our food. I love the beautiful decor and wonderful mural. The chairs had wheels so u can roll around and in circles while waiting. So that's good. THE ONIONS WERE SOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!!! I recommend

Good mexican food, good service, and so fast on the chips and salsa refills, that is all I need for a Mexican restaurant to be great. My grandmother lives down the street during the winter months and this is one I her favorite lunch spots. I got the chicken chimichanga and it was good, nothing special, but it satisfied me. The margarita was nice and strong, but maybe that's because because they recognized my aunt and grandmother as regulars. I was quite pleased with the margarita, service, and chips and salsa, so it forced me to bump up otherwise 3 star mexican food to a 4 star rating. If you are craving some decent mexican food for a good price and bowls and bowls of chips and salsa, then this place is for you!!! I am sure that I will be coming back in the future, and I am glad to have a go to mexican joint whenever I am staying in St. Augustine.

Casa Maria is a moderately priced joint that serves Mexican food good. Service is fast and friendly. I personally usually get the carnitas which are excellent. Great portion but could use more tortillas. They one give you three but overall a really great meal. Also when ordering QUESO is a must one of the best quesos I have had in Florida. Plus 2 for 1 margaritas and combo drafts are awesome and for some reason they seem strong. I keep coming back for more and still haven't had the whole menu.

This was my first trip in. This location is definitely the nicest I have been to. Great drink specials, awesome food, very enthused waitress. I ordered the beef tacos and YUM. I had to order another one. I already love Mexican food, but this place is smoking in comparison to the competition. My friend ordered the margarita pitcher and it was mixed to perfection. It didn't taste like she over poured the tequila, which is something that tends to happen with pitches and turns me off to drinking! I love the vibe of this place, I will definitely be back for more!

Not bad. Nothing special. Generally pre prepaired and small portions. Wait staff was fast and efficient.

Rude, food was ok but not worth 81.00 for 4 guests. Really couldn't understand English. Didn't get what we ordered but we were hungry and ate it anyway

Not sure why this place only has 3.5 stars. Food was killer drinks are strong and the staff is super attentive.

Food is always tasting good tastes fresh, service is always good. Nice authentic feel to restaurant atmosphere with painted walls following Mexican theme.

Great serve and a great atmosphere, but the food was OK. it was cheap eats for the beach area and the did have happy hour. Like others have said, the HOT sauce id HOT -- but great if you like hot - I do. I would go back, but it's American Mexican - the place was busy with people coming in as late as 8:30PM - so it must be ok for the locals.

Fla. Usa Decent Mexican food that's hard to screw up. Beware of the hot salsa it so hot , so be careful. Our waiter was great but we had him running, the prices were good and the food was OK. Just remember the salsa is muy caliente. I would like to go 3 1\2 stars, but not 4.

Good food, good prices. I had the steak fajita which was right on point. Staff did their job and they did it quick. The food to a while but overall it was worth it. The chips and salsa are awesome!

SHITTY SERVICE, SHITTY MANAGER....the food is mediocre and expect to experience lazy servers and stupid managers. the people can't make the food right (tried it like 3 times) and when I called the restaurant, the waitress (heather) asked if I wanted to talk to the manager. I decided to talk to him but the crappy dude kept on saying "what he wants?" " I need the rum, where is the rum?" (without knowing that I can hear him) .So, the dude cares more about his rum than about his clients. What a jerk!!!!!! I hope this place closes soon, it is not Anastasia Island material.

The food was average. The service was awful! At a mexican restaurant I am alright with the waitress not knowing english well, but not when it seems to be selective depending on the request. Our waitress was extremely rude. It was moderately busy and our order took forever to come out. I had to go up to the bar for silverware and water as the food was getting cold waiting for them to arrive. We were charged for each margarita when were supposed to be 2 for 1. Not only was it a production to have this corrected, but seemed to be an imposition on the staff. I very rarely write a negative review, but with so many great restaurants on the beach felt it was worthwhile for other yelpers. I heard from other locals(my parents are snow birds to the area for 20yrs) it started out strong but steadily declined.

Damn!!! There fajita texana very good!!! Service is grate!!! N u just cant beat their California Burrito.

Staff is extremely friendly and was more than accommodating with our special allergy concerns. Miguel even took label photos to show us! Chips and salsa quite good. Margaritas in a pitcher seemed a bit watered down and less flavorful than most. Maybe it was an unusual batch (the management agreed). 2 for 1 beers all day every day, limited selection. Carnitas plate was a huge mound of savory pork with pico, cheese, and beans. Very good. Chile Colorado was even better with a bit of spiciness. Shrimp tacos and guacamole were also very good. Portions were filling. They obviously plan on you being full enough to need to be wheeled away (the dining room chairs are on rollers). Overall, I recommend casa Maria highly.

Another wonderful find thanks to Yelp! Nice Mexican restaurant with 2 for 1 Dos Equis drafts, good salsa, and pretty good entrees. I had the carnitas, which was delicious and huge. If you like lean meat, this wasn't. The carnitas was a cardiologist's worst nightmare, but it was soooo good. Will definitely be back again.

Good food. Good service. Great prices. I'll be back. I ate two chalupas with a sweet tea, and was very full. I also pigged out on the chips and salsa which were better than average. The guacamole side was pretty good too, though it had a little too much cilantro for me. I love avocados and when I make gauc I just mash it up and add salt, pepper and a little lemon juice. Dat's perfection to me.

Got the beef quesadilla, the best quesadilla i've had. Out of all the mexican food restaurants i've been to, this is by far the best. The restaurant is pretty big, so its good for a big group of people. Plus the prices are just awesome. You get great food for cheap. I really recommend this place to everyone who likes good mexican food.

  • Joel B.

Lunch prices are great but the quality is not. I don't think I'll return, I'd rather pay a little more and get the quality. I'd say the food taste like frozen quality. It's cheap enough though.

Usually I go here and everything is fine. The food is good and service is average. Recently I went and it was absolutely horrible. Our server was running around frantically but didn't really seem to be accomplishing anything. It took her 10 mins to get our drink order.. Took 20 mins to get our alcoholic drinks (which ended up tasting like syrup) and almost 40 mins to get our food. I'm a server myself so I do tend to critique other servers and this was some of the worst service I've had. One of the worst things you can do is keep people waiting. I will still be back because the food is good. But I was very disappointed.

I had heard a lot about Casa Maria, and a friend's son recently decided to have his 10th birthday dinner here, so the good reviews were coming from kids and adults. This place definitely lived up to the hype. Very relaxing atmosphere, and a very welcoming staff. The menu here is about the same as every Mexican restaurant, so everyone is sure to find something they'll like. Tacos, burritos, enchiladas, salads, they got it all! The prices are low, and the quality of food is high. I chose the California burrito- and this thing was NO JOKE. A massive burrito jammed with steak, guacamole, rice, beans, cheese, and it was delicious. I topped it with a little of the salsa you get with your chips (which is insanely fresh and tasty), and I was in burrito heaven. Throw in the 2-4-1 Dos Equis (which is offered pretty much every night), and you've got yourself a great meal. The restaurant was clean, service was great, food was great, and the price was right. Plenty of seating, and they also have a bar area, if you'd like to have a couple margaritas or beers and watch the game on their flat screen TV's. Really enjoyed this place. If you're in the area, and looking for a great place to take the family or to just enjoy some great Mexican, Casa Maria is the spot!

I'd like to begin by saying that I love this place for having 2 for 1 Shocktop on draft and the prices are awesome! The food was good, nothing above average (I'll give them the points for making good stuffed poblano peppers). Our server was courteous and she was attentive. The downsides include the other staff who seem like they don't really care about being there (watching tv at the bar, standing around talking like its a hangout). My concern is the sauce that is brought to you when you first sit. My gf and I finished the chips and barely ate 1/4 of it, as a restaurant owner, it must be costly to waste that much sauce unless its being served multiple times ( I hope this isn't the case) TIP: get smaller salsa bowls, and offer seconds; also, keep your staff busy. Overall, average experience at a great price!

About what you might expect as food is generally good but not outstanding. Salsa and chips very good. Fajitas were average and the shrimp used nothing special. Chicken tacos were good. Atmosphere was pleasant but strip center typical. 2 for 1 beers and good pricing kick this one up on the value scale.

Good Mexican food. If you get it to go, check it before you leave.

This place was a great find! I had no complaints with the service, and for the price, I couldn't have asked for more. My friends and I loved the chile relleno, cheese enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, and the chips and salsa. Decor was a bit tacky, but I went there for some great Mexican food, and that's what I got. 5 stars.

Truly enjoyed the food, which was very good and plentiful! 2-4-1 Margarita's and Corona's, yummy salsa and chips... And a Mariachi Band serenading us! We'll definitely be back!

Don't bother. Mediocre food at best and overpriced margaritas. Service average. My fajitas were 3/4 onions with very little meat and Friends burrito was cold.

Yummy yummy YUMMY!!!!! This place is good and cheap. I'm not that big on Mexican food, but OMG I am a huge fan of this place. Apparently it's pretty authentic. It's always packed, yet service is always good. It's right in the Publix plaza so if I'm getting Take-Out, there's always something to do while you wait. Anyway, go there. The menu is varied and everything is delicious. Except I seem to favour the Carnitas platter. The Carne Asada is also good. Enjoy.

Went here while on vacation in FL. Found their food to be good and quick service. Ordered the fish tacos and meat tacos, fish tacos were good but enjoyed the meat tacos were better. The chips were fresh and taste with excellent salsa.

Here's how NOT to provide customer service. I WAS a regular customer at Casa Maria Mexican Restaurant. Tonight my partner put 3 twenty dollar bills in his folio for a $39 meal and asked for change. The waiter returned the folio with $1. When questioned, the casher came over and insisted that she only received $40. When I challenged her, she agreed to balance her drawer and again insisted that she only received $40. When three of the customers at the table said that they saw the 3 twenty dollar bills fanned out in the folio, she again said she did not take the other $20. When challenged again by angry customer (me) who said that someone must have dropped the bill, and wondered aloud why the customer would ask for change from $40 if the bill was $39, she said, "Why would I take your $20?" I then demanded that she take our contact info and call us when the restaurant was closed and the drawer was balanced, and her only response was to defend herself by saying she didn't take the money. Interesting, since I never once suggested that she took the money. At that point, I was so disturbed by the glaring lack of any customer service (and afraid that I was about to get really ugly with her), I left. Of course since I was treated like a liar instead of a customer, I just got madder. I called the restaurant to ask for the owner's name so that I could contact them on Monday and she told me should could not give me that info. When I asked for the manager's name, she would only give me the first name (which I suspect is hers). Now I'm really ticked off and will spread the word about the poor service at Casa Maria Mexican Restaurant on A1A in St. Augustine. Here's a tip: The customer should always be treated with respect and given the benefit of the doubt. The appropriate response would have been, "I'm so sorry about this! We will balance the drawer as soon as we close and call you." Or even, "I know you guys eat here often and I'm so sorry about this! We will make this right, no matter what." Come on, people, customers are hard to come by these days, don't lose the good ones!

Not busy but still has slow service. Had to flag down our waiter to take our order after he passed our table 4 times without speaking to us. Sent my queso dip back twice because it was cold. Tortillas were hard and in a little foil roll, like they had been stored a long time. I love mexican but ill eat it somewhere else next time.

Very good Mexican. Fast service, affordable. Had the Taco's Carne Asada, very good, meat was a little tough but I got to sample the "Casa Maria" enchiladas, taco, tamale, chalupa(which reminded me of a tostada) and the chile relleno which was amazing. It's a spin off of the La Nopalera restaurants in Jacksonville.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
